A unique opportunity to be welcomed into the home of an Israeli Arab in the Galilee and learn about the traditions, culture and food of the local villagers. In a hand-on cooking workshop you will learn to make a variety of local dishes and eat a typical Arab home cooked meal, that you prepared, under the guidance of your host. In addition, a visit to the colorful local market will add depth and understanding to the day's experience.

You will experience an integral part of local culture: the middle-eastern custom of hachnasat orchim; warmly welcoming guests into the homes of local villagers. After introductions over tea and coffee we continue with approximately 2 hours of hands-on preparation of traditional Galilean dishes. The menu changes seasonally. Once we have finished preparing the delicacies, we all sit and enjoy our feast.
When we've finished eating all the great food we have prepared, we'll say farewell to our host and head off to the local market, where we'll see the raw products that we used for cooking in the workshop and much more. If we want, we can even buy some things to take home with us.
The Arrabeh market is the largest in the Galilee. Jews, Muslims, Druze and Christians all shop together, because the quality here is unequalled. You will see first hand the harmony of living in the Galilee.
You'll finish having had a great day out and having seen a slice of Israel that you would not have otherwise had the opportunity to see and come out with a different understanding of the complexities of the middle east. The program runs on Tuesdays and Saturdays, which are the days that the market is open.

This is the only tour in the region that has you tasting award winning goat's cheeses, sample wine from boutique producers and have a delicious home cooked Galilean lunch. You will also see a part of the Galilee that you wouldn't otherwise be able to see.

We have an optional addition to visit an olive press and in season (mid October - end of November) you can go into an olive grove and pick olives with a local family in their field.

This is a food and culture trip like no other.

We meet at the Ein Camonim goat's cheese dairy, where we will taste cheeses that won medals at the 2016 and 2017 "mondial de fromage" in France. Everything at the farm restaurant is made on site, from the bread, olives, jams and of course, the cheeses.

From there we continue through the beautiful Galilee to a local winery. After touring the winery and hearing from the winemaker about his craft, we will taste a range of his wines.

To finish the day we travel the short distance to the local village of Yarka where we meet our Druze host in her home. After introductions and explanations regarding the Druze people and their mysterious faith, we sit at the table and eat a home cooked meal like no other you have ever tasted. The ingredients are all seasonally grown in the region and cooked with love by your host. This is food that is not found in any restaurant in the country.

You will have finished the tour experiencing the old and the new, the modern and the traditional, which typifies Israel today. And you will have tasted the best of Israel's Galilee  produce.
